Rodeo Houston

Our landlord contacted Carl a few weeks ago and wondered if we would like rodeo tickets. Having never been to a Rodeo before he said sure and before we knew it we were driving to Reliant Park to check out the Houston Rodeo and Livestock Show.

We arrived early and looked around the park for awhile. We've decided Texas really does grow it all as far as agriculture is concerned, everything from corn to rice to cotton and citrus. It was interesting learning about the different regions.

After we grabbed some food we headed into Reliant Stadium for the Rodeo. We had front row seats.

The kids loved it. Even Ezra did a great job and was entertained by everything.

The kids loved everything so much they insisted on cowboy hats when we left.

Ezra didnt get his own hat but he does like the big kids hats.

They have been wearing them everywhere today, including out for lunch.

You cant really tell from these pictures but Callie had a run in with Gabe's bat the other day. Her eye actually looked worse then this for a few days but now is looking much better.

We now have a no shagging balls in the yard rule. We've been keeping busy with baseball and the boys both seem to enjoy playing. We are looking forward to our trip back home soon though, even though the boys will miss a few games.

Port of Houston

Before we even moved here when I was looking up information on Houston, I discovered that there were free boat tours through the Port of Houston. We didnt have any baseball games this weekend so we decided we would make reservations and see what it was all about. You do have to make a reservation at least 24 hours in advance and over 18 has to show ID to board but otherwise it is free. We arrived and got in line and soon we boarded. The kids thought the boat was cool and when we were allowed they immediately wanted to move to the back of the boat.

There were several ships in port, a few government ships

Lots of Cargo ships

Several tugboats

And lots of various other kinds of ships. Some were from far away countries so it was cool to see whete they all were from. The kids loved finding different types and even colors of ships.

Even Ezra had a great time looking out at all the ships going by. They liked to go to the front of the boat as well.

Ezra liked it when he got to be a big boy and stand on the deck with the other kids.

They even offer free coffee and soft drinks aboard the boat. On our tour we got to see a coast guard boat and also a helicopter overhead. The kids thought that was pretty cool as well. If you're ever in Houston(besides visiting us:) it is definately something fun and different to see and do(and its free, cant beat that!)

Baseball and an Update

Crazy to think about but baseball season has started down here in the Lone Star State. Gabe is playing Sr. Division machine pitch and Ty is playing Jr. League machine pitch. Gabe is on the White Sox and Ty is on the Cubs, crazy how they both got Chicago teams. Opening day was this past weekend with pictures and a big opening ceremony.

After opening ceremonies we grabbed some lunch and then back to the ball fields for Ty's first game.

After Ty's Game we had Gabe's game.

It was a long day and we all got a little sunburned even with sunscreen but we had fun. Baseball does wear a guy out though.

Before opening day we had some visitors! Grant and Danielle came down for the weekend. The girls went shopping to get Callies flower girl dress for their wedding in May. We also took them to the waterwall

And we had a fun day at the beach.

That same weekend my parents arrived for a short visit. We took them to the beach as well, that day it was so foggy you could hardly see the water!

All too soon our visitors had to go home so we cheered ourselves up by taking advantage of our zoo pass and the gorgeous day. We got to see the new baby elephant

As well as the new baby giraffe

And of course the monkeys always like the monkeys

Homeschooling is going pretty well. We are all getting used to our routine. We have been studying the Declaration of Independance and Colonial times lately so we got to write with quills the other day. Everyone enjoyed it but decided it would have been harder to write back then.

And just because he's cute...here ya go.
